I picked up this nice little XL a couple of weeks ago.The seller said the throttle trigger was "stuck",in fact the linkage was disconnected.When I pulled the engine from the case I found that where the linkage hooks onto the carb was actually seized.I sprayed it down with Deep Creep & got it working freely again.I pulled the carb & found it was loaded up with oil.Someone had put bar oil in the fuel tank.A new fuel filter & fresh fuel got ther saw running very nicely! But now after I put a new oil line on with a duck bill the saw refuses to oil.I filled the oil tank up over the duck bill to see if was producing air bubbles to pressurize the tank & I didn't see any.I also pulled the oil pick up out to make sure it wasn't plugged.At this point I've covered all the bases known to me to get this little bugger oiling again.I have no idea where to go next.When I got the saw I noticed that it must've been stored in a hot,dry environment because the throttle was seized on the carb & the oily dirt & sawdust was baked hard on the inside bottom of the engine case. Edit:also worth mentioning that after my last XL encounter with having the oil lines crossed,I made sure that the lines are in proper order.

Did you check the oiler diagram? It may be stiff and not working.

If you have no pressure coming through the duckbill, it will never oil. Back up & correct that, the impulse port is a direct shot from the crankcase, so it’s either plugged, the reed valve is ruined, or you need to pressure & vac test for possible leaking seals or clamshell seam. Some plastic XLs have no oiler diaphragm, maybe the earlier ones, but photos of your oiler & tubing would help. That’s not the space shuttle you’re working on!

I would've replied to this sooner,but my computer decides to put incoming mail into the spam folder for no reason.Meanwhile,I went back into the archives & read a similar post about an XL2 that wasn't oiling.Undee said that sometimes when the saw has sat for eons ity's necessary to run the saw at WOT for 3-5 min.to build up pressure in the tank.I did this in the a.m.for just over 3 min.till it threw the chain.I put it back in the garage & got out another XL to work on & noticed a puddle of oil on the asphalt right where I was holding the saw which I had pointed at a bag of charcoal.I replaced the oil lines going to the tank,but there's notyher line that goes to the bar pad that I didn't replace.Apparently that line has a crack in it & all the oiol came out there.There was no oil on the bar opr chain,but there was oil on the underside of the saw.I'll pull it apart again to investigate.

It oils! I pulled the engine out of it's case again today & my suspicions were proven true.There was a crack in the line that goes to the bar pad right where it joins onto the barb.I replaced the line & fired up the saw & it was oiling in no time.I must say though that these XLs don't spew out very much oil IMO.The chain is wet with oil,but not enough to make me happy.
