Hi Guys, Ok, so I have quite a few Zip saws, bars, etc., and I've never seen this bar design in real life on an original bar. So is it a real design that Homelite made.......or is it a new design that someone thought up recently. A supposedly near new bar with this design sold on eBay for over $200, and he threw in an old Zip saw with it. But I'm not sure it wasn't a recent stencil job. So I'm curious, has anyone ever seen this design on an original bar......or only the re-stenciled stuff? Oh, Sugar Creek sells the stencil, but they say they don't know if it's real or not. thanks, bob

I have had the same question since the last saw I bought has that logo also. My first thought was a Zip-B wasn't enough saw to run a 32" bar. The bar came on a S1050. Any literature out there that would date the logo on these bars? I did check the logo on the starters of two of my Zip saws, they are all of the same design.

Bob,I've found the seller of the bar of the above link doesn't know squat about chainsaws,he just sells parts. The pic is of exceptionally poor quality where one can't hardly see the slot or the openings for the bar adjuster. It does look to be a D096.I have nop idea why he even put the word "zip" in the description. The Zip bart should be an F014 mount like in the 1st pic on this post. The D096 will "fit",but the oil hole doesn't line up properly. One may possibly be able to modify a D096 bar to work in place of an F014.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for chiming in. So what I'm still not getting.....and really all I'm trying to find out........is was this Zip bar made for use on the Zip chainsaw.......or some later saw? If something later I'm not understanding the connection between calling it a 'Zip' bar and using it on any other saw. There's a guy on eBay who uses the same Zip logo and sells Zip saw parts........so I just figured it went with the Zip chainsaw from the 50's. But now I'm not sure what to think. I've got a lot of the old 50's Homey Zips around and figure when I restore them I'd stencil a bar or two with this 'Zip' logo if it was for that saw. If not I won't. It's a cool logo, but looks way too modern for a saw from the 50's. And if it was made for the Zip and used with that saw I'd think I'd have least run across one such bar by now......but I haven't. Hence my questions.
thanks, bob

There was a company down in Erie,Pa.in the '70's called Zip Penn & I think they just referred to themselves as Zip.I have an old Zip Penn bar here that came on opne of my little blue EZ saws.Just a possibility.

I have a Zip B , serial number B 2551868 that was produced sometime in the 3rd quarter of 1967 and Acre's site claims the Zip Bs were made thru 1968 , so
it's possible that logo is correct .
Charles
Edit : Looking at the IPL for the Zip , the logo is the same

Hi Charles,
YES....I did see that on the last IPL in Leon's list for the Zip/600. I think they put saw logos on some of their IPL covers, but it would seem strange to me that Homelite would put the logo for one specific saw on a bar that could be used on many of their saws. That Zip logo is used on the later Zip saws....on the starter and gas tank I believe....but putting it on a bar would be odd. I mean if they were going to do that then why not stencil the "600" logo on bars for those saws, "Wiz 55" on bars for those saws....etc, etc. It would make a real nightmare for dealer's inventory control. A guy would come in needing a bar for his Wiz and the dealer says all I have are these Zip bars.....but they're the same thing. Maybe no one back then would have cared. But folks like my old man wouldn't want a Zip bar on his Wiz55. And I'm not saying they didn't put that Zip logo on some bars......maybe display models or demo saws.....but seems odd they'd do it for production hardware. But I guess that's what we're trying to find out....but if they did I believe it would be the only bar they made with a specific saw logo on it....at least that I can think of from that era. I was thinking more along the lines of someone liked the logo and made a bar stencil for it.......but undee says it's real.....so maybe it is.

I've seen a lot of those bars over the years, including NOS in the Homelite packaging. Greg is correct, it's the real deal from Homelite.
