Last night i was able to win an online auction on HiBid which was quite a deal. in the lot was an old SEZ and a box of NIB Oregon D59 chains and 3 original Homelite .375x0.050 DL59 new in the box. I think there was 5 or 6 Oregon chains. Also got with it 2 16" Homelite SEZ bars. I talked with the auctioneer before the auction and he agreed to remove some simple parts off of the power head for my spare parts collection (recoil cover assy, air box cover, side guide plates). All this for a little over $20 plus shipping.
The original H chains will go on some SXL saws that i have already restored, the Oregon chains will get used on either SXL or SEZ saws.
My supply of usable D59 chains was getting low and as you know, they are not easy to get (unless you have a breaker / spinner) to make your own loops. This is the next planned purchase.

Hi bama,
So I'm curious.......whenever I find something on HiBid I contact the auctioneer and ask about shipping. And almost always they reply that their shipper won't estimate shipping until he has the item in hand. So how do you get a shipping estimate before an auction??? Or is it just the auctioneers near me that are idiots?

Usually they say like $8-$10 handling charge and then actual shipping costs from the UPS store. I didnt need the entire saw, and didn't want to pay shipping for something which may not be worth anything, so i contacted the auctioneer by phone before bidding and he agreed to strip off the parts needed and to dispose of the rest of the saw. I anticipate that the shipping will be less than $20 from Iowa to Alabama but that is just a guess. 8 or 9 new chains (or once used chains) and 2 original K095 mount bars for $40 is a bargain in my book.

Last night i came home to a heavy package on my door stop. i opened it up and found 8 used Oregon D59, 2 used Homelite 59, 1 NIB Oregon D59. None of the chains were ever sharpened, lots of metal on the cutters. The auctioneer was nice enough to include the parts i asked for to be shipped. I got 2 16" original Homelite bars (one hard nose, one roller tip) both with original paint intact along with complete recoil assy, air box cover, side cover and guide plates. All this for less than $40 shipped to my door.
The auction company out of Iowa (McGuire Auction House) was great to deal with and were very fair and helpful. I wish all companies would work like them.
Looks like i get to spend an evening this week touching up about 10 chains.

Hi bama, Glad that worked out well for ya. I've got 3 or 4 saws coming in from HiBid.....should be here any day now. For those who want to bid on HiBid there are a few things to note. It's not like Ebay. Every auction house has its own rules about shipping and you need to contact them before you bid to make sure they'll ship it. You also don't know the shipping costs until after the shipper sends it your way.....and you're on the hook for it no matter how much it is. And lastly, every auction is NOT proxy bidding like eBay. I found that out the hard way. So you'll need to be sitting there bidding as the auction closes. But it's interesting and I'll see what shows up and how much it ends up costing before I render judgement. Just make sure you read each auction's details BEFORE you bid....as they all look the same until you read the fine print.
