Picked up a nice XL100 circular saw at a local estate sale and an original metal case, The serial number is 2943428 I'm pretty sure these were made in the 1960's but not really sure. Can anybody tell me the date it was made? I'm going to have to do some carb work on it. It will fire if you prime the carb with gas, but will not pull gas up to the carb. This has a large felt fuel filter in the tank. Was thinking maybe it may be clogged up. I don't see how these are replaced or cleaned. Another question, what size blades did this use? I think maybe 8.5". Any info is greatly appreciated. You don't see these very often and wonder why they were not more popular.

According to Chainsawlady's sales records, it should have been built in late 1968. You can try filling the tank with fuel and waiting a few days. Sometimes the wick filter takes and while to absorb fuel if it's been dry for a long time. Long shot but it worked for me once.

Nice find. When you see those listed, the seller usually wants $500-600 for them. Original case and all too, couldn't do much better than that.
Further to what Ronaldt mentioned, there's probably a good chance the carb diaphragms are old and stiff and/or the inlet needle could be stuck shut. At any rate, I bet it doesn't take much to have it running just like a song.

I got to do some research on it and found that some had a governor. I got a carb kit for it. It has the Tillotson HS carb on it but I don't see any linkage to a governor on this carb. I'm thinking this may not be the original carb. It does have the vane on it after I removed the starter cover you can see it. I'm not sure how the governor works on this saw. I am posting this with my lap top and don't remember how to post pictures using it. Is it easier to post pictures using my phone?
This saw has a copper fuel line that comes from the tank up to the top with a rubber fuel line that connects to it to the carb. I blew air through it and it is bubbling the gas in the tank so it must not be blocked. The tank was very clean when I got it. It was stored without gas in the tank which was good.
