So, I decided it was time to reach out to this forum. Picked up a filthy, nasty, sawdust caked 20 MCS this past weekend from a yard sale. The guy that was selling it said if he didn't sell it by the end of the weekend he was going to use it as a boat mooring! I looked at once, twice and walked away but came back. It was begging for me to take her home! Now I've done a couple of saws rebuild in the past but not as old or downright dirty! I couldn't pull the starter and he said the piston was seized. I started to walk away from it and he said $25 bucks. I paused for a moment and said, OK. Now like everything else going on with my life, I really didn't need or have the time to start looking into it but curiosity got the best of me so I started to dig in. For starters, took the muffler off, started soaking it with some penetrating oil and took off the starter cover. BOY! I'm telling you! That starter housing was stuffed completely of a mouse nest and two, maybe three dead mice! Once I cleaned the starter housing and let the piston soak some of the oil for about a day it finally started to move. Did a quick compression test and it's around low 90ish PSI. Is this correct compression value? I've read the 26 LCS is around 85 psi. Also, I've played around with the ignition a little bit but not getting any spark. After debating how much further I wanted to go, I needed to clean it first so ended up disassembling it completely, minus separating the crankcase. For parts, it looks like it needs new fuel lines, starter cord and going to try cleaning out the carb but first, I need to see what's going on with the ignition. This is going to be a summer project when I have time. Not looking into getting it painted or full restoration and such. Kinda like the old chainsaw look like an old rat rod truck or car!
