I've been wanting a C-72 for quite a while now to try to add to my C series collection.I bought it for $93 from 85Monroe on Feebay. It's supposed to have compression & looks to be complete, minus the bar & chain.More to come when I get the saw.All I need now to finish the series is a C-51 & C-52.Lately these C series saws have been going for a tidy price. Edit:here's a pic of the saw the seller had on Feebay.

Well its about like mine as far as condition.Mine does have a bar and chain.I haven't done much with mine yet. Peeked in exhaust port and saw some piston scoring. May need new piston.

I haven't even gotten that far Sparky.I've been so dang busy with splitting wood this last week that I haven't had any time for saw work.I miss it too!

Hi Ed,
Looks good! I've bought a lot of saws from 85......you'll find his packing.....uhhh......interesting. And if you lose interest in it.....I know someone on here looking for a tank cover!! They're interesting saws in my opinion because they always came with short bars. They're a decent displacement, but for some reason Homey kept the bars on the small size. Someone told me the C series was more of a "farm" saw, rather than a more heavy duty logging saw, but that's probably a bunch of BS. Maybe they were marketed more towards homeowners, but they're pretty beefy. Have fun with it!!

If all goes well tomorrow & I get my neighbor's little PITA XL out of my hair I'll tear into the C72.Something I noticed about the C72 was they didn't use the Fairbanks-Morse starter on it.Looks to be a "normal" starter. It doesn't have the overrunning bearing starter either.First thing I need to do is pop the flywheel & have a look at the points.I have one last NOS condenser left too.I just wanna hear it pop!

This C72 is turning out to be a PITA.I took the points out for cleaning & they were actually good.I put the NOS condenser in after I had to modify it a bit.I went to check for spark & ended up with the recoil rope in my hand.No problem,I put the same rope back on & was ready for testing.I had a brand new Champion J8C & went to open the gap on it a bit & the strap moved way too easily. The strap was partially broken.I put a J8C (hotter plug) in just for testing & it fired on a prime in the plug hole.(can't prime on the carb because it has the anti-spit back shield on it) I figured I'd see about putting a new fuel filter on it,but when I went to pull the line & filter out I found the line was broken off at the nipple. Now I have to pull the handle assembly off so I can install a new line & filter.I just can't win today.

It took me the better part of the day to put a new fuel line, fuel filter,& throttle lock in the C72 today.Of course I was interrupted by a couple of friends who stopped by.The C72 was a runner (somewhat) for a short time till the condenser pooped out.I guess I'll have to go to LRB for a new one,but I'll get new points with it too,not that the saw needs them.I still have to pop off the rim & drum to grease the bearing & put a bar & chain on it..

While lubing the clutch bearing today I was going over what I did,or should I say what I didn't do when working on this saw.I forgot to tighten the nut that holds the wire from ther condenser onto the points stud.I popped the flywheel again & not only was the nut loose, the wire wasn't even on the stud.I could've sworn I put it on,but in my haste to get the saw running I must've overlooked it.I put the wire on the stud & tightened the nut.Once the saw was all back together it took 2 pulls for it to fire up & run the way it should.I only needed to make a carb adjustment for it to run great.I didn't even have to pull the carb. The bar & chain that I put on it came off my XP-1000. I guess when we're in a hurry things get overlooked & it's always a good thing to retrace our steps to eliminate mistakes.
