Anyone know why a homelite xl100 skil or pow-r saw would have a wachs name and badges on it?

Welcome! That is quite a scarce piece you have there. I also have one, and would love to see more of yours. If it's easier to post photos on facebook, feel free to do so on my page, and I can get them loaded to the dicsussion here. The Pow-R-Saw 200 was a pipe cutting saw. I have talked with Wachs about this, and unfortunately, they do not have any records on it. Based on what was shared with me, the old timers there felt that since this was a rebranded tool, it was likely a prototype/market research type of design, used to help explore the idea of expanding their portable pipe cutting tool line. Wachs built their own equipment, so the Hoemlite was probably a quick way of obtaining feedback from the field on something this size and weight. The timeline of the XL-100 aligns with Wachs own history of making a change to focusing primarily on pipe cutting tools, and intorducing more portable designs. Most were more bulk hydraulic setups at this time. Here is my facebook page, if you would like to load photos there. I can use my Flickr account to bring them over here to the site. MI Old Saw Page

Very curious to see your serial number Pete. Comparing mine and yours, you have the later color blue paint, later caps/knobs and even an entirely different Wachs main casting.
