Hi Guys,
The other week I was just browsing some of the old Homelite magazine ads listed on eBay and I ran across the one for the red XL-103 in it's blue Homelite carrying case. And I thought what a great contrast in color. Then like magic one pops up a few days later on there with it's nice neat blue carrying case. They both looked decent, so I bought them. I certainly overpaid by today's standards, as I paid $180 plus shipping....and I don't remember what that was right now, but it was ridiculously high. I wasn't really expecting much, as most saws on there are crap, but when I opened the blue case I was blown away! This thing is beautiful.....and I don't even like the XL series saws!
Now that's a lot of money, but I'm thinking in another year or three finding a nice original Homelite in this condition is easily going to cost that, probably more......so I'm not beating myself up about it too much. Did I mention how nice it is??? It has it's original bar and most likely original chain, as it couldn't have been used more than a time or two. Both oil and fuel tanks are spotless and the rubber lines are still flexible. Go figure. It probably needs a carb kit and the lines replaced anyway........but for now I'm just going to stare at it for a few days before I touch it and screw things up.
Those of you who've been in this hobby for some time probably ran across tons of saws like this, but I think they're getting harder to find, at least from what I'm seeing for sale.......and that trend will only continue. I haven't started to clean it up yet, and it could use a good cleaning, but I thought you guys would like to see it. Oh, the air filter is spotless, as is the carb compartment......and even the dual white pinstripes on the handle are all there. Wooo-Hoooo..........Bob's a happy camper!!
enjoy,
bob
