Am looking for bar plates and side cover for a XP1020. Not real familiar with this saw yet, so am not certain if some of those parts are interchangeable with other models, but that's why I'm here, to learn some of you folks knowledge on this saw. Thank you

Parts from a C series (C-5,C-7,C-9,C-51,C-71,C-91,C-52, C-72) will work on your XP-1020. The main difference between the C's and your 1020 is the engine displacement and the fuel tank capacity. C series parts are plentiful down here.

Thank you again, would you by chance know if the plug hole in the cylinder is metric or standard threads? I have cylinder plugs to replace the spark plug when wanting to pull clutch, just that mine are for the more modern saws, so just checking. The clutch turns by hand but hard, I'm not sure but if it has a clutch bearing, I'm thinking may need to be replaced, what's your thoughts?

I would think that your cylinder plugs would work. I'm not aware of a change in spark plug hole threads. Another way to do it is feed a bunch of small diameter nylon rope into the cylinder to jam the movement without causing damage. Your saw does have a clutch bearing. It might just be dry, needing a little grease. Does the chain turn constantly even with the engine idling? That's a sign of a bad or dry bearing.

Unfortunately for me, the saw had no bar and chain. I'm living away from home right now, on a job and I haven't had a chance to get home and look this saw over, it needs to be cleaned up a lot. So, no I haven't started it, but just turning the clutch by hand, it is stiff. Are there any tricks to taking these clutches off , I'm sure there different than the newer clutches, thank you to both of you

The drum

I think it could be several different things making the drum hard to turn. It could be full of years of crud. I suppose it could be a weak clutch spring allowing a shoe to drag also.

Your right, an going home this weekend, will have a chance to clean this saw up and see what issues it may have. Are there any special tools or tricks for taking this particular clutch off? One other thing I noticed was the handle bars were broken down underneath the saw, what type of metal are in these handlebars, just wondering if they can be gas welded! Thank you

The drum is held on by a nut (9/16 head I think). If using a wrench or ratchet, you may need to jam the cylinder. I've removed them with an impact and didn't have to jam the cylinder. This might be all you have to remove. If you need to remove the clutch itself, you will definitely need to jam the cylinder. I use a spanner wrench (comes with different sizes of pins). The clutch has reverse threads so it will have to be turned clockwise to remove. As far as the handle, they are aluminum. It might be repairable but it would probably be better to replace it. The C series handle will work on your saw.

I just removed the drum from an old C-72 that acted like what you're describing on your saw (turns very hard). It was a 5/8 headed nut holding it on. The majority of the problem was a build up if old dried up crud. The needle bearing was dry also. I bet that's what's going on with yours. The clutch is probably fine. Keep us posted on future progress!

I will, will be a couple of weeks, have to go back to camp tomorrow and need to order a spanner wrench. Did clean the beast up while I was home this time, needs new spark plug boot and side cover and the clutch freed up and we'll see what happens, thank you for the helpful advice
