Hi Guys, I don't know if the two guys running this one up are the same guys who ran up the 26 LCS the other day, but with 2 hours left they're heading towards $600 with shipping for a 990D. I guess shipping to the West Coast would be less, but not sure how much. The quote to ship to Maryland is $145! It's a nice big Homelite, but for that kind of money I'd rather have the Power Machinery Limited that no one bid on earlier hanging on my wall. Maybe a 990D is a rare bird.....don't know. But it's bringing some $$$$ for sure! Ya gotta love eBay!! regards, bob www.ebay.com/itm/403427163385?hash=item5dee21fcf9:g:aIIAAOSwlpdh7c2Kwww.ebay.com/itm/275146912278?ViewItem=&item=275146912278

It seems that the price of everything collectable is rising. Signs, gas and oil, cars, and saws also. I would love to have a big 990 but it's very rare to find one here in north Iowa

That’s a big price tag. I’d like to have one of them but I wouldn’t be willing to slap that kind of cash down.

Yeah, I just saw the 995 top a grand!!! I need to start paying better attention at garage sales!! I hear what you're saying about collectibles rising in value, but I got a funny feeling when the last of us baby-boomers get planted there's going to be a lot of cool stuff that the younger folks have absolutely no interest in.....and won't pay anything for. I guess the trick is to sell it all just before people start figuring out there won't be anyone to sell that stuff to after us. Which reminds me....I've got a whole house, garage and shed full of those "collectibles" I don't want to get stuck with. Unless we really can take it with us. But I'm doubtful.

A dear friend of mine has been a collector for a long time. He has mainly gas and oil signs, globes, cans, etc. He watches the market ( online auctions,eBay) diligently. He says now is definitely the time to sell. Things are bringing crazy money

The price of this stuff is nuts. People driving the prices up on this stuff by dumping money down is what makes collecting them almost no fun now. Who wants to drain half their bank account for a saw to add to the collection. Not Me! Shoot I'm realizing more and more how lucky I am to have my 990G and my 909 or 9-26(still figuring that out). I know the 770 stick shift is even more rare so it looks like I should try and sell one for $2k lol

When starting out, I swore I'd never buy any saw older than one made in the 1970s, especially if it didn't have an auto oiler and if it couldn't be used as a practical tool. Man did I ever goof on that one! Those 900 series saws are amazing, and really, the 995G is the final of the great series and in gear drive to boot. You just don't see very many out there, especially for sale. The more you learn about the older saws, the more to really want and appreciate them. I'd never pay that much for one (or I'd be sorry!), but lots of people into these saws creates a crazy demand. Dan

A lot of the later part of that generation is retiring (it’s even some of what we see in the workforce shortage now). Anyway, a lot of these saws fall right into childhood memories of some of that generation. Put childhood memories together with finding a solution for leisure time in retirement and it drives some of the prices in these markets. Now of course no article drew a line direct to these chainsaws however it does correlate the same

I just spent the most time I've spent on eBay in quite some time. The prices are ridiculous, no maybe more like ludicrous. Even non-collectible stuff like 10" & 12" bars for $100 - $150. A 20" GW bar for $200. Is this stuff actually selling?
I actually found a couple of saws that I'm trying to work a deal on, mainly because they're only a couple hours away and could be picked up at some point rather than paying shipping.

Those prices are one reason I sat out. I am spending a bit now on that 925 I was going to part with but now that I am going to have in it what I do I probably will not let go of it. Prices of these things have nearly doubled since I started. I don't hold any ill will towards it though, it is how the market works. The demand is up for it and at the same time the supply is down. For me the trustworthiness of ebay is down. I purchased three items from a seller I have always had good experiences with. One item is wrong but I will fault myself for that. The IPL shows the exact part I ordered which is the exact part he sent but the part is wrong. I missed some information there somewhere so that's on me. One of the other 3 items wasn't in the package. He responded that he had help and it should have been in there for me to double check and let him know. I double checked again and again. It isn't there. I let him know. Crickets. It's only 9 bucks so I hate to be an ass and go to ebay with it but it's just getting to be how people are these days. I try to see both sides though and I've seen enough on social media and here to believe sellers are taken advantage of more than not on ebay so I probably won't worry much.

Most people locally here are buying from Facebook Marketplace.
