My 10618 cylinder and rings are shot. I really like this little 8” saw and don’t want to toss it though. There are a couple 10618a engines on eBay, one with measured 120psi. I’d like to swap but the 10618 and 10618a have some subtle differences and I believe two different carbs. The heads appear to be identical though.
Does anyone know if the 10618a and 10618 use the same head/rod/piston assembly? And would I be able to rebuild if so, or are there internal parts that are one time use, like gaskets, that I wouldn’t be able to get my hands on again?

I believe they are pretty much the same.

Thanks for your knowledge. Are there any tips you could give me when I go to swap the head and piston? Do you know of any torque values? And should I try to reuse the gasket, buy a tube of gasket maker, or cut a new one from a sheet?
