Hello folks. I'm a new homelite collector (sort of). I have an sez that is n great shape, tons of compression. That's the good! The bad is it was idling funny so I tried to adjust the carb and I'm getting like no response from my low carb adjustment. I just can't figure it out. Check valve maybe. Looking for expert advice. Thanks.

Welcome to HOH! The check valve would show up as a high speed or erratic tuning issue. No low response seems more like a misadjusted fuel inlet arm or incorrect circuit plate gasket. Have you put a kit in it yet?

Circuit plate has 1 hole and a z shaped gasket. So that seems ok? Inlet arm height is what I've been playing with. I have not installed a kit yet. I've been watching Leon's videos which have been great. One of his videos he says low-speed screw isn't responding. Just can't find that particular video. I just love these old muscle saws.

I've done too many videos on the HDC, I can't remember that one either. But no response has to be lack of fuel or too much fuel. When it's running is there gas coming out of the muffler?

There was at first but not now. I readjusted the lever height and pulled the spring out a little. It's running much better now. I can turn the saw all ways and the idle doesn't change much at all now. Throttle seams nice and crisp. I was a little intimidated with the carb work a first but I'm doing ok with it now?! It seams like I can have the carb out in just a few minutes now! I enjoy every bit of it! Thanks to Leon's videos

This may not be new info to folks with experience working with HDC carbs and Leon explains it well in a couple of his videos but when replacing carb kits in these HDC carbs, DO NOT be fooled by the cheap kits available. The taller post on the Chinese kits will cause flooding every time because it will keep the needle valve open. Only use OEM Walbro kits. I speak from sad experience and wasted money .

One additional quick tip for HDC owners: As stated above, the correct, undamaged, circuit plate gasket is indeed critical to the function and the "Z-shaped one is used primarily in Homelite HDC's. There is NO reason why you cannot keep the other one, carefully cut the slot with an Exacto-knife, and PRESTO, you will have a backup gasket if you ever need to take the circuit plate back apart and damage your gasket. Takes all of 5 minutes to make a backup.
