This Homey appeared last night on CL. The seller doesn't know what model it is and I sure do not. Most of the Homelites that appear around these parts are usually the small cc saws. It looks like it has been around. Not much paint left on it. It definetly needs a new recoil housing. Need some professional opions here. cincinnati.craigslist.org/grd/1221432345.htmlThanks. Vince

urbicide: Welcome to this forum dedicated to Homelite chainsaw. Looks like a C-5 to me. The bar appears to be in good condition by the looks of the weld still showing on the tip. Are you thinking of buying the Homelite?

Thanks for the welcome guys. I kind of keep my eyes open for interesting saws that appear on CL here. Buying the saw? Quite possibly. I was never big on the ebay thing but it looks like I might start to use it in locating parts. I like the larger saws and eventually I would enjoy doing complete restorations and saving the old timers from the scrappers. Any idea what a replacement recoil housing would run?
Thanks again.

Hi Vince - On ebay, if you find 'ebay express' you'll get many dealers 'stores' These are all 'buy it now' items, thousands of them. There's no bidding, most of these dealers have been on there for years, have good reputations, service, and a wide choice of parts.

Hi Vince and welcome!
As I mentioned at AS, my money is on it being a C-52. The C-5 had a flatter air filter than this one. Could have been swapped, but it looks like its been on the saw. Should be a fun saw to play with!

Vince I have seen some recoil housings for c-5s on EBay but none for a c-52. The c-5s run about $15-20 if they are in reasonable condition.

Looking at the IPLs, there's not much difference between the C-5 and C-52 starters. They show a different cup, but the friction shoes, pulley, etc are the same. I don't have either of these, but I'd think they should interchange. Its odd that for the C-72 Homelite decided to use the "new" pawl method, but for the C-52 reverted to the old FM style starter. Probably a money issue, and I guess they thought anything was better than the over-running bearing style from the 51,71,91!

Here are a couple C-5 saws. There is one with a little different starter. You can see the flatter cover Dan mentioned. Bill

Well I want to be different! I say C-51. Haha, just kidding...but it is a possibility. Im with everyone on saying its not a C-5, wrong air filter cap.

The ole Homelites can be a whole lot of mis matched parts. That is a concept that is missed by many. In any event. It does look like a C51/52. That is just based on looks.
