Hello all I just found this site and am glad that I did. I just received close to 30 Homelite chainsaws and it is great to have a site dedicated to these saws. 2 of these saws are Zips. The first one is the normal blue Zip that can be found on the acres site. The second one is a yellow "Homelite Farmcrest Zip" that is "Sold exclusively by McLeods Ltd." I have only begun to search for information on this model (that's how I found this site - via chainsawcollectors.se) and would like to know a couple of things. 1. Can I just use any Zip info that I find to restore this saw? It runs, but I would like to strip it down to bare metal and restore it to like-new condition. 2. Is this a rare saw? Does it have any collector value over and above the regular (blue) Zips? Here is a pic: Thanks for any information that you can provide. Chris

Oh boy, a yellow Homelite, I love it. many manufactures made chainsaws for retailers, that is what you have there, it is special. Hang on to it or pass it on to a collector, I would clean it up and use it.

Hi, and welcome to HoH. You will have to give us a listing of all 30 saws ;D Sounds like fun times for you. The Blue Zip is quite common. I suspect Homelite had a contract with McLeods Ltd, sounlds like it may be from Canada, to build saws with their name attached. Take a close up of the serial tag I'd like to see it. I'm sure most, if not all blue Zip parts will work because I doubt anyone paid to Homelite to design special parts for the McLeod version. You will have to be careful of one thing. There is a member of this forum who would love to add a yellow Homelite to his collection of other things yellow

Hi and welcome Chris. I am fairly new to the homelite and forum world also. I Know that there are John deere yellow homelites. I think that is a whole different category though, John deere owned the company when they produced the saw.
Your saw on the other hand is like private labeled products. I would think that sets your saw apart and makes it RARE or at least rarer.
Cool find, have fun playing with it.

Welcome once again Chris! Don't know too much about those nice older saws, but this is certainly one that I'm seeing for the first time. Very nice and unusual find. A keeper for sure!

There is a member of this forum who would love to add a yellow Homelite to his collection of other things yellow The other saws are: XL12 (4) Super 2 (2) XL Automatic Super 2SL Super XL 130 (3) 245 360 Professional XL 1 (2) SXL-922 XL 102 XL700? Zip (2) The rest are in parts boxes. I haven't had time to find out why they were disassembled, or what is wrong with them. It is somewhat odd how it turned out. I am a Jonsereds guy, but when I got this lot I took all of the saws, and seeing some of these older saws in person (Zips, D-33 Le Sabre, RAs, HC, etc) really cemented my desire to bring any older saw back to life. Some of these magnesium-bodied Homelites will definitely be up for restorations. Thanks for all of the responses, and for the welcome to the site.

Here is the one that was tentatively identified as an XL 700. There is no plastic on it so I will definitely be putting this one on the restore list. Is it an XL 700? (man, I'm glad I found this Homelite forum!!)

It's been a long time since I've seen a XL-700. Since it is blue and that body style, I'd say it's a 700. Can you peek behind the clutch and see if it has an oil pump

Hi cjcocn! Your "XL-700" is actually an XL-701....made in Canada. That is if the recoil cover and the air filter cover are original. The red is what distinguishes them. I have a very nice XL-701 and I also have the IPL and a sales brochure that shows what it looked like new. Congrats on finding it,....It is the only other one I have seen! Talk to you soon! Joe

Thanks Joe
Can I beg a pdf copy of the IPL and Sales brochure from you? I will send you an email.
Do you carry any of the decals for this saw? No rush. I am going to have to build a list of saws that require decals, but first may have to build a building to store the saws in.
cheers

Hi cjcocn! You bet,...I will get those scanned and sent to you tonight...,send me an email to scsupply@gmail.com and I will send you a return email with the pdfs. As for the decals, I think it only has one,...I will check mine tonight,...shouldn't be a big deal to get it made up. Make me a list of what you need....some of it I already have available, the rest should be able to be designed fairly fast. Talk to you soon! joe
