I'm sure someone on this list could tell what the displacement and horsepower is on Super XL engines and if it varied from year to year.
I have three SXLs, the oldest being from the 70s or late sixties. I believe it is a SXLAO as it has a metal air cleaner cover and no thumb oiler. Next in age is a red model that I bought from our state highways surplus sale as a parts saw. The engine was locked, the bar & chain burned up but otherwise the saw looked to be new. Turned out someone had cannibalized the rings. I unblocked the oil passage in the plastic thingy next to the oil fill hole, cleaned out the oil tank, replaced the bar and chain, installed an Oregon floating sprocket, a set of rings and was good to go.
My third saw is a 35th Anniversary model SXL I bought mid 90s. I just refurbished Bar, chain, sprocket, and gave it a good cleaning.
I love this list! Thanks!

Hi All! They didn't all come with a thumb oiler. I just sold one that had the manual oiler provisions but they were capped off at the factory. I have also seen a change in the reed assembly from a single flapper to the 4-petal style......Bob

Yeah Farley, I saw that one, Nice saw.
Im wondering if it would be possable to change a saw from the single reed to the Pyramid style? Ive also wondered if any of the 400-500 series saws use a slightly larger reed cage that could be adapted to the SXL.
I also found out that the SXL is 3.3HP.
