This is a general question for cleaning up a piston with transfer on it & very light scoring.Does it matter which direction I'd sand the piston,up & down,or around the piston?Logic would dictate that it should be up & down,but do correct me if I'm wrong.

I haven't done much of it but when I have I always go around the piston since that's the direction of the original mill marks on some pistons. Probably won't make a lot of difference one way or the other if you get it smooth.

The piston cleaned up very well.I used emery cloth on it,I didn't plan on using sandpaper at all.

Is this the one that now has 0 compression? 'cause the ring locating pins are in the proper orientation in the pic.

Are the pictured rings new? Something doesn't look quite right there. What is the ring end gap and piston to cylinder wall clearance? Faulty compression tester been ruled out?

The rings are brand new.The compression tester is correct on other readings I've had on other saws.I have no idea what the ring end gap is & the piston to cylinder wall clearance is fairly tight.Keep in mind thios is a used piston that I cleaned up.I'll be doing a pressure test on the crankcase & let you know the results.
