I have found a few parts that I just can not find after months of looking for them. I am thinking of taking one of my restored saws which has a very good (almost new) part, and 3D scanning the part to make a CAD file made so I can get it printed in metal. Has any one tried this before and if so was it worth the effort or am I just jumping down a very deep and expensive rabbit hole?

What parts are you looking for? I don’t think anyone has tried printing obsolete parts that I know of.

Seems like every cylinder shield I find is cracked or missing a corner or a large chunk. Sure would be nice if I can find 6 or 7 NOS ones for the saws I have that need them.
I will let you all know if I can make the numbers work for getting one made at a decent price point.
