Hey guys, this is my first post on the site so I'm sorry in advance if I've messed something up. I recently dropped my Homelite xp1020 off at a local saw shop to get a new Proline piston installed and the cylinder cleaned up. I few days went by and I got a call from them saying one of their new guys tried to force the cylinder over the piston without holding the rings in properly and broke a pinkie nail size section of the cylinder skirt off. Anyone know of any good trees to bark up to find a decent cylinder? Anyone have one sitting on a shelf? Will a 1050 cylinder fit the 1020? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

A cylinder is going to be a tough find. They broke it , they should find you a cylinder.

That's a bummer but as they say "stuff" happens. You could check with chainsawlady. If you scroll down through the categories of the forum, you'll find her. Otherwise, Ed ( another member) has some good sources and he's good to respond. Leon is the administrator of the forum and has a ton of parts. Send him a message and he might know of one. Good luck and welcome to the HOH!

Thanks guys I really appreciate the responses! Sadly a family friend owns the saw shop and he's done me a few favors in the past so it sounds like we're even now. I'll make sure to reach out to those members! I'd love to get this old beast fired up!

How about a few pictures of the damaged area ? Maybe if the damage is low enough and/or on the side , the cylinder might be usable , especially if
is not a "working" saw that will be used hard .

Hello & welcome to HoH.I believe ronaldt was referring to me as having sources to go to.(thanks Ron!) About a yr.ago,or a little more, the sources I had have dried up for a cylinder for the 1020.The XP series were all the same size - 100cc,so an XP-1000,XP1020,1050 & others pretty much interchange. The latter saws had a tube that ran up the side & could be used provided you blocked it off.If you haven't done so al;ready you can go onto ArboristSite & place an adf there in the "Wanted To Buy" section. Also as mentioned check with Leon,I think Joyce (chainsawlady) is all out of used or new cylinders. You might also chjeck with Bob Johnson in Maryland,N.Y.(607-638-9297) as he's always buying out distributorships for Homelite parts.

I'll try to get some pictures up this evening after work! The cylinder was polished up with some scotchbrite and it looks like a decent amount of the inner lining has worn off on the exhaust side so I'm not sure it was a huge loss if I could find a replacement. I have made a matching add over on ArboristSite and have gotten a few comments so far. Thats good to know about the other 100cc saws, I was hoping that may be the case. That at least expands my options when searching. Thanks again guys and I'll get some photos up soon!

Hey guys, here's the pictures of the cylinder. I just picked the saw up from the shop yesterday and it looks worse that what I was told. The piece missing is more in the base of the cylinder wall opposed to the skirt and it seems like there's also a crack in the skirt. That kid must have really been wailing on it. Do you think I could just file any burs off the break and use it or is it totally junk? This is my first time posting pictures and using Flickr so hopefully it goes through alright.
