Hi sorry to anyone who wasted their time on the first message. I'm Will from Essex in the UK. I have a query about an extra part o have found on 2 saws . I have 3 old Homelites 2 super xl autos and a super mini xl. The saws all run great and I use them for firewood cutting. I found the most recent one in a reclaim yard it's a Terry super xl automatic with a 24inch bar the other is a Texron with a 20inch bar. When I got the super mini I found a piece of what looks like a piece of black painted tube that has been flattened and had 2holes in it to allow it to bolt onto the saw using the side cover bolts. The piece is about 2 inches long but you can see it was part of something bigger that has broken off. I didn't take much notice of it untill I got the recent saw which has an almost identical piece on it also broken. My thought is that it might be some sort of mounting for a hand guard but the ones I have seen bolt onto the front handle mount. I would add a picture but I'm hopeless with technology. Any ideas? Best wishes William

Will, my VI Super Mini had a similar piece of flat plate under the side cover nuts when I got it. I think it was simply put there by a previous owner to brace the side cover - being magnesium alloy they are very light and fragile and prone to cracking. I don't think it was anything more than that. I have removed it and simply put some decent thick washers there now. Your items may have been a bit of old mower handlebar tube or similar, fashioned to perform the same function. As you say all the hand guards attach onto the handlebar mount, although there are lots of homemade oddities out there! All the best Steve (in Somerset)

Thanks for your reply. Yes that makes sense I didn't take any notice of the first one it was only when the second one appeared which is an almost identical piece with a broken end that I thought maybe something else had been attached. The second one had the piece trapped between the side cover and guide bar but that could be where it had been assembled in the wrong order. Best wishes William
