On the existing coil, a spade terminal coming from the approx center of the coil is attached directly with a weld(?) but on the new ignition coil has the same terminal fitted with a wire as if to be attached to some other point. My choice is to install it under the coil attachment bolt which is toward the top right. I'm assuming they both perform the same function and will continue to do so if I do as I have just described.
I bought this saw in 1984 and this is the first problem I have had
HELP will be greatly appreciated
I have been told that the coils gap should be set at .0010"
Is this correct?

I don't have any experience on the 330 but according to the Homelite Service manual, you should only have one lead other then the spark plug wire on the coil and it goes to the kill switch. In this same manual it lists the coil air gap at .015". I'm sure someone with some experience on the 330 will add some more detail.

I attempted to transmit a picture of my saw with the new coil in place, did it not transmit/
