I just got my grandfathers 150 automatic running again. While trying to get it going i pulled out the cord completely so i took the recoilstarter apart, put the cord back in and reasembled it. Then i ran it for about 10 seconds and the recoil starter locked up completely. it does not seem like there is anything wrong with the bearing mechanism, so i worry that i reasembled it incorrectly, any ideas?

So the recoil locked up or the engine locked up? You can't pull the engine over now?
It would make a heck of a mess if the recoil clutch locks up with the engine running.

It was the recoil that locked up, the engine is fine. It unscrewed the nut it goes into that also secures the flywheel when it locked up, and the spring was also a mess afterwards but i have managed to wind that up again.

So I hope the flywheel didn't pop loose. Did you get the recoil pulley out of the clutch nut? If it didn't do any damage to the part of the recoil pulley that goes into the clutch then sounds like you may just need a new clutch nut. If that pilot on the recoil pulley isn't completely smooth, I'd replace both.

I just tackled this same problem on a customer saw...it turned out to be the bearing in the nut.

I did fear that that was my problem, I live in Denmark so parts are pretty much impossible to find locally and it is too expensive to ship from overseas
