So a guy here at work needed a saw so I gave him a hard to start Super 2(plastic one) I have it back now to fix as he couldnt start it. It loses spark. I hooked my timing light to it and no flash when it wont fire. So all it has is the coil ign module all in one. Disconnected kill switch and no improvement. All appears in great shape, very low mileage saw. Flywheel looks great. I tightened up air gap to no avail. Is it common for a coil failure? All I can see wrong is "made in Mexico" on the coil. Any suggestions before I spend $36 on a free saw? Thanks

If the compression is good on the saw it would be worth the price of a coil for it. Personally, I would stick it on the shelf until someone gives me another Junk S2, but I have a lot of running saws so I don't need to have it running right away. Oldzip, Redsqurl, RBW, or LMT37 might have a used one. CSW

Most likely the cost of a New/ another coil??
You know buy a new coil.....$36
Install it....$ DIY
find out you have a fouled spark plug..
Priceless.
RS (all on a free saw)

Anyone charging $36 for a Super2 coil needs whipped, if indeed thats what the amount is for. I would look the old one over for loose or questionable attachment of the plug wire. Also look at the 'spring' that goes on the plug tip. Sometimes this can get sloppy where it attaches to the wire. That could cause interrmittent spark. Good point OldZip.....Is there a way to repair (tighten) that spring in the plug boot ?

Ow Ok I did check the plug end and the coil end is securely glued in. Yes it did have a new plug 1,675,981 yanks ago. Coil prices ranged from $32(stens) to $61(original).The saw is too clean to give up on, so I guess its time to order. Dare I ask, are the aftermarket ign parts ok? This thing is newer than Im used to so I thought Id ask around. Thanks all
