Oregon makes a standard" Professional Grade" cutting chain and a newer "Advance Cut" chain that is primarily designed to avoid kick back occurrence. Does anyone have any practical experience comparing what is good/bad/indifferent about how they work for use? I have an Advance cut on an SXL925 and it doesn't seem real aggressive cutting thru large logs like my XL101 with a standard Professional style chain. Appreciate any input!

The advance cut chain is an Oregon Vanguard safety chain with new name. Certainly not a bad chain but it does not cut as fast as LGX chain. Both have round ground chisel cutters. For faster cutting the LGX, EXL or LPX chain. None of those are safety chains.
LPX (I like that stuff) has a ramped bumper beside the depth gauge and may look like a safety chain but it's a full yellow (non safety) chain.
The ramped bumper makes it a smoother cutting chain and doesn't seem to affect cutting speed.
Some guys making race chains use it.
I hope that helps.

Very helpful- I think an advance cut might make sense on my limbing saw (avoiding tip touch kickbacks), and my felling/ trunk cutting SXL have a professional grade. Just the opposite of what I have of course!

A toppin/limbing saw needs an extra measure of safety designed in the chain in regards to the close proximity of the cut and your upper body. Kickback while working in a tree 🌲 would take you out of the game for a time or permanent, be smart and safe.

Probably good advice on the limbing saw chain or for any other potentially unsafe cutting situations. Like my boss used to say, there's nothing more dangerous than a chainsaw, as we were taking those Saf-T-Tips off right and left and throwing them in the trash. But it was his business. If I had an official shop today, I wouldn't do it.
I imagine you have one of the few 925's around with a full safety chain on it! I've never felt like a larger, heavier saw with a decent size bar on it posed much of a kickback hazard to me personally. I've never had a kickback result in injury but the few times I've had a kickback that got my attention, it was with a small saw like my Super 2, usually limbing. I'm especially careful when I have the saw up in the air, like eye level. That's definitely a good time for Vanguard or the like. I'd say if you cut in situations that concern you, run the Vanguard.

Have an EXL chain coming for the SXL925. Should be an attention getter for the trunk cuts. Thanks for all the help. This site is fantastic for finding answers/advice!
