I'm looking to restore an EZ blue with a manual oiler. For starters I'd like to just get it running before going nuts on it. To do that I need some basic parts, where can I get parts for this saw?

First, which EZ are you referring to?There were 2 different EZ saws made by Homelite. There was a smaller EZ that was 38cc (I believe),then there was the larger EZ that was upwards of 80cc used in logging back in the day.Depending on which saw you have & what parts you need, first check with Leon & Joyce. If they don't have what you're looking for then PM me & I'll get you hooked up.

I believe he said it's blue so that would make it the smaller 38 cc version. Ed should be able to give lots of advice on this saw. Right Ed?

I did revive 2 little blue & white EZs this past summer.I didn't have to get into the engines at all,but one I had to get spark on & both needed carb rebuilds. They're nice little runners.I prefer not to strip the paint off & redo them.I prefer to let their battle scars tell their stories.

Yes its the 38cc saw. It ran a few years ago.
The bar is marked PT16503 and is pretty much shot.
I need a new pull start rope and handle.
It has the walbro HDC carb, a kit for that would be great, can get this on Amazon unless there is a better kit or recommended kit for it.
I think if i had this stuff i could get it going and assess.

Also the oil cap and gas cap leak, are there orings for these or do I need new caps?

Most likely the caps need new duckbills, depending on what style caps you have.I think your saw should have the aluminum tubes in the caps & the duckbill is under the tube.If the tubes are missing they may have fallen off & are in the tanks (hopefully). The recoil rope & handle can be had from any small engine shop,or buy online like your carb kit.

Ya neither cap has metal tubes in them are these breathers? I'll have to look in the tanks but I don't hear anything taking around in them.

The metal tubes aren't "breathers" as you call them, but the duck bills that go under them are.If you don't find the metal tubes,Joyce (chainsawlady) might still have some.If not, then I can check with another parts supplier I deal with occasionally.I don't think Leon has them anymore.

Hey Ed if you can come up with say 6 of the tubes I'll buy some! I have several caps missing them.

Update on this saw...I replaced the pull cord and handle. I also added a carb kit to it, this saw has never idled well but I was able tweak the idle screw tab a bit to get it to respond to turns... Anyway it runs really well.
The down side is its really lethargic, its not snappy at all but maybe it's just the way it is...when I put it to the wood it struggles. Going to play with it more once I get the chain sharp and try and tune to carb a bit.
I was able to find an original oil tank cap with the tube, need to test to see if the duck bill is working. Does anyone have a gas cap with tube? My airbox cap is broken in half so I'm on the lookout for that too.
Any suggestions on getting more snap out of the saw would be appreciated or any help finding the caps...
Thanks

A compression test might be in order now as it sounds like it's low on compression.Unfortunately the only way to bring the compression back up is a new set of rings (if it has more than one).Low compression will give it that "no snap" sluggishness. You may be able to tweak the carb a bit more, but I don't think it'd revive the saw enough. Also,a sharp chain makes a world of difference.

Kind of a longshot but have you had the muffler cap off? I've seen some of those old models with the exhaust port almost choked off with carbon. The oldies used to run 16:1 mix so they built up a lot of carbon in their earlier years before the switch to lighter fuel mixes came along.
A cleaning and regap of the points could help a bit too. And I guess you put fresh gas in it?
And will it wind up really fast as you turn the HI adjustment screw in? Could be that it's still adjusted a little too rich.
If all else fails, could be low compression like mentioned earlier.

I test compression it tops out at 80psi. I think that's a little low, maybe more like 100 to 110psi should be right, but I'm no pro you guys tell me.
I did have the muffler apart, the exhaust port is clean and the top ring didn't look carboned up either.
I'm in the middle of troubleshooting this saw but if you guys have more recommendations that would be greatly appreciated.

80 psi is too low, roughly half what a healthy EZ should be capable of: 155-185 psi .

Anyone have part numbers for a new piston for the EZ? Not sure if it's needed yet but want to know what to look for if it is needed.

I believe you're looking for A-65196-A.

Great thanks... do you have a link to part numbers? Beats asking for everything all the time.

You say the compression is 80?
Do you know for sure that your compression gauge reads correctly? (for small CC engines)
Lots of compression gauges will read low when checking a small 2 cycle chainsaw engine. Can really lead you down the wrong path. I've had good Auto mechanics bring me chainsaws that they overhauled and said their compression read lower after they overhauled the engine. They were surprised when I said lot of auto gauges will not read correctly on a small cc chainsaw. All their saw needed was a carb kit. Dump a 1/2 teaspoon of oil into the spark plug hole and re-check your compression.
