I have the original Walbro SDC carburetor that came on my XL101 Homelite saw. The top cover has stampings on it. There is a "1" stamped to the right of the SDC casting logo which I understand to be the identifier for a Homelite SDC-1 carburetor, part #64196. This carburetor was specific for Xl101, XL102, XL103 and XL104 chainsaws. Additionally there is a "38" stamped in the lower right corner of the top. Is there any idea what this stamping is for?

Possibly a Date Code: 38 = March - 1968 . Post the Serial Number of the XL-101 to confirm .

Serial is 2784917. Figured this XL101 was built some time mid 1968. Original purchase date was 8-30-68. Seems like this method of stamping the top lid was only done a short while???

I have had a chance to view a couple other XL101 carburetors on original chainsaws and it is consistent that this is indeed a date stamp in XXY format for Xmonth/Yyear carb assembly. Interesting that the cover is the location for this.

My Terry built XL-101 serial number 2825745 also has the 1 stamped in the upper right and 117 stamped on the lower right. November 1967?

Yup- Still find it odd the covers were the location for a build date!
