recently I picked up 4 Homelites from FB marketplace. An 1986 SXLAO (my favorite) (had the dead coil, now fixed), 2 XL2's in original red thin wall rectangular cases, and a later model CS 50 (parts saw). After fixing the SXLAO, I started on one of the XL2's. Serial number 41361097 (assuming it is a 1974 model), I know it is an early one due to the metal oil line running under the carb, I had never seen that before, always a rubber line. Also all of the screws on this saw were slotted, not phillips or 5/16" like on later saws. After fighting with spark from the points system (tried two different points sets), I ended up installing a solid state module from a later plastic saw. I got it assembled last night and will test fire this weekend.
Now for the question on the other XL2. no serial number. Just the Lot code of G6253. This one is labeled as Charlette NC, where as the earlier one was labeled as Port Chester. It too has the magnesium housing, but the screws are all phillips. Have not torn into it yet to see if it has metal or rubber oil line. Any help on date coding this thing?

Perfect, thank you. I hope the condenser is good on this one and I get spark otherwise it will be placed on back burner for now.
