I just finished resurrecting a XL902AM. It has the small studs on it. Can you get a “S”spacer for 700/900 saws so that the D096 bars will fit? I have a bunch that fit The XL-130 and XL-Mini saws but it doesn’t fit this saw.

Well there’s karma for ya. That LRB bar that I was crapping all over would have actually come in handy in this saw.....

Go to home depot or any hardware store that's handy and buy a 3/8" extension spring. They are very common. They run 3/8" OD and 5/16 ID. Cut off about three coils for spacers. Just slip them over the studs. That works just as well as an "S" clip. www.homedepot.ca/product/paulin-3-8x1-7-8-extension-spring/1000153639. D096 is perfect for that saw.

I tried making one out of an old recoil spring. Good thickness but hard as heck to bend it into a shape that will actually work.....

Those recoil springs are made of spring steel & rather than bend,a lot of times it'll break, especially if you need to do a sharp bend.

When I've had to put a new hook on the end of a recoil spring, I heated it up bright red with a torch then quickly bent the new end on it. You have to work fast or you might have to reheat it and bend some more. I've bent springs back around into a 180 degree hook like this. They won't start to bend that far cold.

I did make a bunch of "S" clips out of the spring steel from windshield wiper blades.
Coil springs are much easier.

I have a bunch that fit The XL-130 and XL-Mini saws but it doesn’t fit this saw. I have two sizes of S clips for the Homelite saws. 64448 for the super XL and 69966 for the Super EZ etc. saws. If the 700/900 is the same as the super XL 64448 will work. chainsawlady/
