Another "my dad's old saw" thread . In 1997, his lightly-used 1974 XL-2 AUTO was abandoned after I bought a Stihl 025.
Pulled the old XL-2/case/manual down to consider taking the challenge of getting it running again. Found the oil and gas lines both a disintegrated gummed-up mess. The entire oil and gas delivery flowpaths need to be replaced, along with air filter, etc.
Apparently XL-2 AUTO parts are very hard (or impossible) to find. Specifically, duckbill valves?
Is there a good source for XL-2 AUTO parts, or is this saw essentially obsolete/not worth the trouble? Apparently some of these saws are still in use, but can't find where parts are available to keep them running?
(Even if parts confirmed available, don't want to spend a lot on this old saw!)
Was considering this as a possible fun winter project- If XL-2 AUTO parts are not available, then may change plan to a "How Things Work" disassembly with grandkids.
Thanks For Your Time!

THANKS Sawyer! I'm in NY, if there's a better parts supplier based on my location. Apparently, you recommend swapping in a new Walbro HDC-15 carb vs finding parts for a rebuild? Who is "saw pro" that has the Walbro?
Below are parts I plan to find/order to have what expect will be reasonably needed to get the XL-2 AUTO running. This list will also be used to estimate total cost, and whether worth it. Anything missing, or recommended source for any parts? -comments appreciated!
(2) 63718 Duckbill Valves (gas/oil) -Banta part linked in your email
(1) 69659-1 Connector -Oil Line
(1) 69513 Fuel Filter -the linked Banta part appears to be generic replacement
(1) 69141 Air Filter -Banta has part
(3) Tygon fuel/oil/pressure lines -don't know the req'd diameters and lengths(?) (1) A-69242 Oil Pump Plunger (1) HDC-15 Carb rebuild kit, or replacement carb (1) 65016 Carb mount gasket -Banta part linked in your email
(1) Champion DJ-7J spark plug
Again, THANKS for your response!

Leon has an online store on your side of the border. He has pretty much most of the common Homelite stuff. He usually responds to email inquiries through his website in a day or two. Check him out. There are also some others here that may have the parts. www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/store/c45/Homelite_Chainsaw.html Also not recommending to change carburetor. Just buy a repair kit that will suit your model. No saw pro, meant to say “saw probably “. God luck!

Welcome my fellow New Yorker! Depending where you live in N.Y.I might be able to hook you up with a parts supplier.First of all I never try to take any parts requests away from either Leon or chainsawlady.By all means order what you need from them first before going elsewhere. If you find they don't have what you need contact me before you go off to eBay to buy over-priced parts.Sometimes though eBay might be your only other option.I believe I have 2 XL2s in my possession, but neither of them runs.Like you I think that one day I might tear into them & possibly get a runner out of them.
