HI all.Have a question I am hoping someone can answer.I have an early blue XL-12 and it has a HS1A carb which is hard to find a kit for without breaking the bank.I have another slightly earlier model with a HS 142 A carb and what I would like to know is if there is any reason I can't swap the carbs? Thanks in advance.

As long as the other carb came off another XL-12 there's no reason why you can't swap out the carbs.I don't understand why you're having a difficult time in finding a rerasonably priced rebuild kit.I generally find them for $5-$8/kit on Ebay. Ed

Thanks Ed. The only HS1A carb kit I saw on Ebay was 25 Canadian and the shipping was another 20. The other carb I have is from another xl-12 only a bit newer

On The Tillotson web site the only carb they don't list is the HS1A.the carb kits for the HS1A has a smaller welch plug and the one in the other kits won't fit.I have already tried. Could have used it if I didn't take the welch plug out.

That would work except I don't have a paypal account. Are there any other kits with the same size welch plugs?

That would work except I don't have a paypal account. Are there any other kits with the same size welch plugs? Homelite repair kit: 58972 , contained all parts necessary for a HS-1A carburetor rebuild. Other option is to trim thirty thousandths from the RK-23HS Welch plug and make it fit.

I couldn't find the proper 58972 repair kit online but I did use the Rk23HS kit I had and not knowing the welch plug was smaller is where I had the problem. I did however order the welch plug from Leon and hopefully that will fix that problem. The other problem I have now is getting the fuel tank back together without leaking.Had to crack it open to replace the wick and other parts inside.

Thanks. I will use the Permatex Motoseal. Finding the gasket is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
