Hi everyone! Complete noobie here. Very sorry for my ignorance. My father owned and used a Homelite Super XL for as long as I can remember. I happened to see one at an estate sale and the owner said I could just have it for free. It is a little rough around the edges but appeared to have decent compression so I took it home to see if I could get it to run. I don't know anything about it and all of the identification markings appear to be gone. The first thing I did was dump the old gas that was still in the tank. While I was dumping the gas parts began to fall out! Some sort of bolt with spring, felt washer and what appears to be 2 small diaphragm sort of things. My first thought was the last owner tossed them in the tank for whatever reason but then I noticed a large metal washer in the tank. The washer is larger than the tank opening and can't come out which means it is suppose to be inside the tank. What the heck are these pieces? (see images) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is this saw toast? I would really like to get it running mainly for sentimental reasons. Thanks!

Welcome to House of Homelite !
The diaphragm things are vent valves for the fuel tank, the one with the metal ring may still be good and goes on the underside of the fuel tank fill cap.
The stud, nut, spring, felt washer, and large metal washer, are part of the "wick" style fuel filter retaining system.
Super XL Illustrated Parts List : 23840 , shows the arrangement of these parts.

Brilliant! Thank you so much to the both of you!
Is there anyway to find the actual model # of this saw? I can't find any markings on it other than "Homelite" and then part of "Super X......" No plates or stampings that I can see. Is there a hidden place that may have something stamped?
Thanks again!

Early Homelite saws didn't have UT numbers, likely it's a SXL-automatic manufactured in 1966, going by the color and wick style fuel pick-up that was used on units prior to Serial # 2188611. Post some more pictures of the entire saw to help with identification.

Possibly a XL15 or a XL Automatic going by the color.
