Im rebuilding a little XL2 and it has the carburetor with only the low adj. It runs pretty good backed out a half turn and the idle screw is all the way in..... it smokes like I dont know what. Ill bet I chased away every mosquito for miles. Also it doesnt seem to be oiling. Any ideas what ive done wrong?
Thanks Jason.

The duck bill valve is melted or missing and it is sucking oil into the crankcase and burning it in the engine.

I replaced the one on the gas tank. The one inside the oil tank looks good but I will pull it off tomorrow and check it out.
Thanks. Jason.

Two possibilities, either the lines are reversed from oil tank to engine, or duckbill is missing in oil tank. Here’s some pics of the way it should be.

Thank you sir! I bet those lines are crossed.

That was it. Runs like a top now. I went ahead and replaced the duckbill while it was apart.

Glad to hear you got it resolved. Anytime you have excessive smoke and oiling issues on an XL/XL2/Super2 saw, its a sure bet somethings wrong with the oil lines!
