Nice setup!!! I don't have the space in my garage, most of my saws and parts are in the house. I do keep parts inventoried on my phone with excel so I know what I have, so I don't buy something I already have, all IPL's, memos too are on the phone.

I'm jealous. I wish my stuff was half that organized. I have inventory too but just ordered a rewind spring online because although inventory says I have one, I wouldn't know where to start looking! I have some organization but still have 2 crates stacked full of parts too.
Sweet setup!

Very nice indeed. I have too many other projects, can't focus on just one area so my garage is a mess. I have added some shelving recently but it is never enough. My parts inventory is pretty limited, only a few boxes. I just don't do enough saw work to justify more. I buy what I need.
My work space is scattered around since I don't have one spot big enough. The lathe and mill are in the basement, 4 steps down from the garage. Long term storage is in the back yard shed. The garage includes welding and other fabrication stuff. Its all kind of a mish-mash. Its a good thing I have a small lot.
There is room to walk through however. It will get better soon, the snowblower will come off the tractor and with the mower installed, the tractor will leave the garage. I have a couple of large items that will get sold too so they will be off the floor. I am supposed to have room to bring in a vehicle, it has not happened in a long time.

I have some organization but still have 2 crates stacked full of parts too. Sweet setup! A little while ago i spent a large amount of time.organizing parts o Into numerically sorted bins.. Although i dont have inventory of parts i am.able.to.quickly look into the right parts bins. I found there was no point having parts if i cant fimd what i need.. So.either get rid of them or organize.. I still have many totes to go though but slowly i break.down and organize.. I enjoy going through parts as much as building a saw and running it..

WOW! I am just working in my garage but have started to buy up some vintage Akro Mils metal small parts storage containers to keep parts, hardware, etc. organized. I do like the idea of a file cabinet for larger part storage. I am competing for space with my wife's car and shoe collection, so the struggle is real. Will wait to take a picture because it may be possible that the Mccullochs ans Stihls outnumber the Homelites at the moment!

What is everyone’s preferred method of parts organization? Sort by function, model, numerically, etc.

What is everyone’s preferred method of parts organization? Sort by function, model, numerically, etc. I think this greatly depends on how many parts you have, how much room you have, and how their stored.

What is everyone’s preferred method of parts organization? Sort by function, model, numerically, etc. I don't have as many parts as others but I like to organize mine by function. I keep all my belts in one place, spark plugs in another, air filters, etc. I like to write on the part/box what they fit as well. For some things- like spark plugs I do also organize by part number to make easier to find.

Very true, I do not have a ton of parts just yet, but they are starting to slowly creep up on me! Excel sheet is’nt a bad idea to at least know what I have.

I recognize most things but that isn’t the most reliable method, especially for super random parts! I got some small manilla envelops from amazon that I am goong to write part number and description on for a lot of my parts.

I sort parts saws by model in boxes as of now. When I have time and more space I'm going to dismantle all parts saws and clean the parts and store them by part with number.
