I have a XL Automatic with the green, white, and red paint. Apparently this model was not produced for very long, at least according to another reference here. The serial number is 2375770. Being a novice at this I know that the chain is 3/8 and the length is 58 links. When removed the bar measures 18" long. So I am assuming this would then be considered a 14" bar??? I inherited this saw and it has been something of a beast. It seems quite powerful. I cut dry green ash here and the sparks fly late in the day when cutting. So chains need sharpening often.
I noticed the sprocket is beginning to show some wear. So I looked at the parts list that I got along with the saw and realized it is the parts list ( 24228) for the Super XL Automatic. After reading a number of things on HOH I realized that this parts list may not apply to my saw!!!! Or does it? So perhaps you can provide some clarification regarding this saw? Is there some interchange between these saws. I have the a sales brochure that came with the saw Betty bought it and ironically it doesn't list the XL Automatic. The drive shaft is 3/8". So if you could point me in the right direction regarding the proper sprocket, I would be grateful.

Welcome to the House of Homelite. There were two runs of that saw, an early American version and a later Canadian version. You have an early one, I would guess about April of 1967. It would likely have the same clutch as all the others from that time frame. The earlier clutches appear to be the same as the one on that IPL, 59552. Virtually all the IPL's are listed on Leon's site and can be down loaded for free: www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/parts-diagrams.html

The saw is basically the same as a super XL saw except for some color differences and they came with the manual Oiler blanked off. The sprocket is the same as the XL-12 and Super XL saws. The chain should be 59 drive links on a 16” bar for factory homelite. The bar and chain may not be original homelite so the count may be one short for that reason. I have one with a 247 serial number so it is pretty close production to your saw. I still run mine quite a bit for fire wood duty.
