This later saw has the anti-vibration system on it. The handle is not fixed solidly to the body.

Yea, I thought it was missing something back there till figured out it was for anti vibration. It also has the dial to control bar oil flow. Its flowing out the hole with the bar off. The bar passage is clear, but the chain is dry (Oh yea, got it running) So not enuf pressure. Just threw some 5w-30 in there to test it. I am pretty sure I cleaned the filter, and blew out the lines. Guess I am going back in!!!

Oh the irony. I just acquired another little XL yesterday and like you I couldn't find the IPL but this post helped me find it. I too thought something was missing or wrong in the back but once I cleaned it up and found a few pics online I could tell it was supposed to be like that. Anyway I had to put an oil line on it and that was it. Got it gassed up and it fired right up. I need the gas cap with the bulb in it though, the bulb on mine is missing and now I need the oiler adjusting valve on the right hand side. Might try and find me another 14" bar for it, it has a 16" on it now but its pretty rough.

I like the idea of the oil adjuster valve. But if yous is gone/broken you could just bypass it, would be Ez to do. or a shut off valve would be cool. You could set it to half open if its getting to much oil. Then off when not in use.
Hey anybody know where to get the plastic restricter in the bar oil tank? On the XLs its a tiny metal tube with a hole just a bit bigger then a .60mm drill bit. But on the one with the AV handle its a red plastic restricter that the duck bill attaches too.
That cap looks like it would be hard to find.
