I may have missed it ...but what saw is this on... I personally hate jb style fixes on any part or saw... I have repalced many crankcase halves because a mount for felling spike is broken or something similar..usually a good opurtunity to change bearings and seals anyway... Let me know what model this case is for i likely have one used or nos. Scott

It’s on a super XL. Yea I’ve decided against fixing it I’m just gonna leave it as a parts saw. I’m sure I’ll run across one not running around here and make one of the 2

Ok this tainted saw I bought that I am very close to leaving aside as a parts saw or taking it to New Orleans for some voodoo to be done on it has yet another failure. Has anyone ever used JB weld for crankcase repair? I finally got the saw runnin and it runs good but I noticed it wasn’t oiling. I did not check it since I got it so I put some in it only to find it ran out on the ground almost as fast as I put it in. I found there to be a hole knocked in it right behind the bar plate between to two bar studs. It’s about half the length of the adjustment screw and about half as tall. I’m considering taking it down and putting JB weld in that but not sure that it would seal. Which I guess I could redkote the oil tank but then not sure that the saw is worth doing all that too. I might could just put it on the shelf and use it for parts OR as a lesson learned and a reminder of what’s out there I am not sure that i understand where the oil leak is on your Super XL saw. Is in the oil tank between the two bar studs?. If so, it could be possible someone put the bar on saw, but did not get the adjusting pin in the bar hole. When they put the cover on and tightened down the two bar nuts, it pressed the adjuster into the oil tank. I had that to happen a few times. It was easy to do.chainsawlady

Not sure what they call it but Loctite has a product (2 part epoxy) that I know works very well just so long as you insure the surface is oil free.

I got mine from a boilermaker. I'll see if he can let me know of a place to buy it.

Lol looks like I won’t be repairing that crankcase. In a strange twist the guy came back and said the saw had belonged to his father in law and when his wife found out he sold it she got mad. He gave me back what I paid him for it and went on his way. I’m light a good spare piston and rings now as I had put one in it and of course a little time cleaning it up but other than that I guess at least it wasn’t stollen...I guess.

At least you didn't put a lot into it, if you had, it would be a different story
