This holiday is brought to you by a bunch of armed citizens who did not like a large, oppressive government.
Happy INDEPENDENCE Day!

This holiday is brought to you by a bunch of armed citizens who did not like a large, oppressive government. Happy INDEPENDENCE Day! Not much more than 40 percent of Americans supported and rebelled against that oppressive government.

Well, I have always wondered about that number, personally I doubt it but it really does not matter at this point. My statement stands, there is nothing in it about a majority, just like today. This country is still ruled by those who show up.

Well, I have always wondered about that number, personally I doubt it but it really does not matter at this point. My statement stands, there is nothing in it about a majority, just like today. This country is still ruled by those who show up. I'm celebrating the many millions that served, fought, and died to allow all of us in this Nation to enjoy the freedom of differences. In those differences we must allow every voice to be heard and respected or else the sacrifice has been in vain. Partisans on Facebook will claim the number that supported the American Revolution was 20-25 percent. John Adams claimed 30 percent, but he was speaking about a different subject long after the Revolutionary war in a 1813 letter to James Lloyd discussing American opinion about England and the French Revolution during his presidency circa 1797-1801. He said about 30 percent of the people wanted Independence, not that they would fight for it. The numbers don't matter as the British found out when venturing beyond the established metropolitan areas and into the countryside where the American Patriots far outnumbered the English Loyalist. We have a similar situation going on right now concerning the demographics of ideology. The large metropolitan are supporting one side heavily, while the suburban and rural areas are supporting another. It is why our founding fathers addressed the issue of a "Tyranny of the Majority" in everything from staggered congressional elections to the electoral college. The sad thing is too many people on both sides haven't even the slightest inkling on how our government runs or functions. We have elections and the nation is ruled by the outcomes of those elections, maturity is to understand we don't always get our way or our candidate, but it is the American ideal to support our nation and those elected. The past has brought us to where we are now, we didn't arrive here by Hot Tub Time Machine.

Happy Independence day! I only hope that at least Half the people celebrating this day know what it really means and actually appreciate the fact they are speaking English because of those men and women and have the rights and privileges we do.
I have many controversial things I could say, but this is a chainsaw forum.
