Hello everyone
Just picked up a Canadian XL-2 that was covered in sawdust and oil. The saw would not pull with out struggling with it unless the plug was out. With the plug out it pulled fine. I took the cover off and noted the coil was almost touching so adjusted it with a business card. Voila no problem and I had spark. The next question was why so much oil everywhere.... I took out the screws and removed the motor and noticed the oli line was disconnected. Not only was it disconnected but the metal attachment from the case was still attached to the hose. This metal tube had pulled out of the casing. I think it must be a press fit? Anyone ever run into this issue?
Thanks Dan

Hi Dan, Welcome to the House of Homelite. There are several oil lines on that saw, and many different versions of the saw at that. Can you post the UT and serial numbers from the saw? Maybe some pictures? Those would greatly help identifying the saw and a solution to your problem.
Oil line troubles are pretty common on the XL-2 saws. Oil lines are often cross connected or broken so that the repair configuration is not at all clear just looking at the saw.
If you can supply some more information, I am certain that someone here will be able to help.
(There are getting to be a lot of Dan's around here, I might have to change my name.)

Thanks for the response. This picture is a little hard to see as I took it from the old manual. The metal fitting did look as if it was never fit into the casing. I disconnected it from the hose and laid it on an ice cube. I then put my heat gun on the casing and was able to press fit the metal tube back into the casing using my large channel lock pliers. We shall see if it holds up..... Textron Model number is 50059 Not sure about the UT number? will see what I can find

Looks like you have it under control. Glad you got it together.
You might need to put in new/longer hose, old hose shrinks and cracks and might have pulled the fitting out. If that is true, it might come out again.
Anytime you work on one of those XL's I would suggest you take pictures of the hoses before you disassemble. As I said, there are different versions that are not plumbed the same.
Model and UT are the same in this case. If you need other help, please don't hesitate to ask.

In the pic, the line with the screwdriver and arrow pointing to it, is the impulse line. This pressurizes the oil tank to make the oiler work.

This is what it should look like inside the oil tank. It must have a good duckbill or oil will get sucked into the crankcase.

Wow Great response guys.
I am going to check the duckbill as the oil was everywhere. This is my second Homelite, I picked up for $20 bucks thinking it would be a good chance to learn how to work on these saws. My other is an XL-1 and ran right off the hop. Also a real good idea taking pics. I tend do do that rather than running back in and looking up on line lol
Thanks for the help.
Update
Good call on the duck bill guys. It is not there!
