Do I need more than one size of rope? Is there a better brand? I'd like to buy a quantity, maybe 50-100 feet?

I've been using Forester or Stens depending on which is the best price. I keep #3.5, #4 & #5 on hand, seems to cover all of my projects well.

Is there a way to tell from the IPL which size of rope a saw takes?

Later IPL's have the rope size, like the 410 takes a 5 size rope.

So it would seem most of the XL-series of 60's-70's saw took the number 5 rope. Thanks

I recently bought a spool of stens 9/64ths for my little Bandit. The IPL listed #5 (unless I read it wrong) which would be 5/32. I put new 5/32 on it but it was too short and I couldn’t get more wrapped on it without it binding. The 9/64ths of course is just a shade smaller and worked perfect. I might try it on another XL or something just to see how well it works but it was pretty cheap on amazon
