I’ve read where red kote is the way to go for leaking fuel tanks. How is that done? Does the tank have to be separated?

The tank does not need to be separated if you can clean it out okay in one piece. The key is removing all old fuel, oil and contaminants. Acetone wash is the way to go...the product comes with good instructions and the website should have it detailed as well. The product is a flexible liner that covers the entire interior of the tank. Once it is completely clean and dry, you tape off hose holes, etc... and leave one main drain hole (usually the filler neck). Pour in some product and work it around making sure it has time to coat everything. Then drain the excess of back into the can. I usually drain the largest qty off and then let the rest drip into a tray overnight. You don't want puddling, as it won't cure as well or as fast. Just a thin consistent lining. I did my XP-1130 tank over a year and half ago and I haven't had one bubble in the paint or one drop of fuel hit the floor.
