I may try this, Ure-Coat, 15.00 for a pint of clear tint base and 31 dollars for 9 small containers of tint color. shop.smooth-on.com/urecoat

I've got an old red XL that I'm trying out some of the aerosol bed liner on. So far, looks good. Not too rough, but not smooth either. I've put 3 or 4 coats on it in the last couple days, gonna add more to it over the next few days to build up the thickness. I'm testing it out before I cut what's left of the grip off of my 410 and do it too.

Plasti-dip can be used in any color, then sprayed with the correct color of green or red and then Plasti-dip clear can be added over top

I bought Plasti-Dip white spray to touch up the scuffed spots, then I'm going to put Behr Emerald green oil-based semi gloss alkyd over the handle and then a top coat of a two part epoxy clear coat. My handle on my other XL-102 Automatic is so scuffed I will burn off the old coating and spray the entire saw with Plasti-Dip then paint and clear coat.

Okay, here is what I have done. I took a small propane torch and burnt off the old green coating from the saw. Then I took it to my wire wheel and cleaned it up. I hung it by a wire and sprayed almost a whole can of white Plasti-Dip spray on it, lightly coating it over and over about 30 seconds between coats in a very hot shop. I bought a quart of Behr semi-gloss alkyd (oil) enamel in equestrian green. The color turned out way darker than the sample and the sample was a little lighter than the handle. The paint guy wouldn't match the handle bar so I put in 1/2 ounce of white alkyd enamel in it to lighten the color to match the green handles. I'll add a poly converter catalyst for alkyd paints and spray the green over the white plasti-dip and before I put the saw together it will get a couple coats of two part clear gloss epoxy over the green for added protection. I tend to micro manage these tasks, but oh well. 20180511_201759 by Al Michaels, on Flickr 20180524_190730 by Al Michaels, on Flickr 20180525_202908 by Al Michaels, on Flickr 20180525_200743 by Al Michaels, on Flickr

So far, with the white, how does it feel? Is it hard like the original? Joe.

Thanks guys. The 10 light coats of Plasti-Dip makes it feel exactly like my NOS XL-103 handle. I used to custom match paint colors at a paint store for a couple years. Once word got out I was matching colors all day. I think with the epoxy top coat this will be a very usable saw handle

Very nice. I didn’t even know it was possible to restore a handle like that.

Very nice. I didn’t even know it was possible to restore a handle like that. It was fairly easy. Burn off the old coating and wire wheel, 6.00 for the can of Plasti-Dip spray, a few ounces of some green paint mixed with white paint, and the clear epoxy that I'm going to spray on all the other part as well

BTW, I got frustrated trying to find the Plasti-Dip clear with the tint colors locally, not available and couldn't even order any at ACE, Home Depot, or Lowe's. Its 31.00 on ebay. The white paints contain titanium in the base, the hardest of all raw paint materials, so I went with the white spray and used a alkyd oil enamel with a hardener over top the plasti-dip, that with the clear epoxy top coat will be stronger than anything available. The funny thing about colors is you cant use your eye as much as your mind. The color will fool the eye every time. Look at the green handle on the light green towel and against the original handle, they look nothing alike. Sitting on a red or pink towel would give a better idea of the real color. If you want to check colors, put them against contrasting colors like red, green, blue, that's the basis of computer colors, the RGB scale
