Okay, so I hate having to do this but when I'm wrong, I'm wrong and I'll own up to it. 99tahoe had posted pics of a clutch a few days back and I was convinced that it couldn't be right for an XL-123. (http://houseofhomelite.proboards.com/thread/6905/3-inch-clutch)
Well Mr Know-it-all was wrong! I was filling an order tonight when I found a massive error in my parts database. Years ago when I started my cross-reference database, I did not fully understand or in some cases pay attention to the revision numbers on a part#. So I had failed to distinguish between the 65760-1 and 65760-2. In addition, I had parts that I had purchased that turned out to be mislabeled, compounding the problem. All of that being said, 99tahoe I think you have an original XL-123 full radius clutch setup that needs 65842 clutch springs. Any clutch shoes that need replaced should be the 64569 shoes. I'm going to try and make a nice list of the common clutches in this style and their components to help avoid this in the future. This isn't meant to be an exhaustive list of all clutches or models, just the ones I have found easiest to confuse in this style. Someday I'll try tackling the "spider" style clutches, but for now here's the plate style to the best of my knowledge (If anyone sees a mistake, PLEASE help me correct it!):
Early XL-101 to XL-103 with ~2 3/4" clutch:
XL-101 to XL-123 with ~3" clutch that has full radius shoes (A-69410):
XL-101 to XL-123, 350, Super EZ with ~3" clutch with partial radius shoes (A-69459):
Super XL, XL-12 with early full radius clutch shoes:
Super XL, XL-12 with later partial radius clutch (A-69480):
C-52, Super XL, XL-12, XL-15, XL-88, XL-400, XL-700, XL-701, XL-901, XL-921 with ~3" Inboard Full Radius Shoe Clutch:
XL-701AM, XL-800, XL-850, XL-870, XL-875, XL-903, XL-904 with ~3" Outboard Full Radius Shoe Clutch:
