I didn't have any spark on my XL-123,so I checked the coil - it was only putting out 6.02 ohms.I believe it's so weak that it can't produce any spark.I looked on Leon'sd site & didn't find anything. The IPL calls for Part # 64091.I went to chainsawr & they're trying to say that the coil from a 101,102,103,& 123 are the same & they give part # 64435.If I'm not mistaken, the 103 had electronic ignition?I also went on Feebay & they have the coil 64091 with no wire or plug boot for $70 plus shipping - figures.

Points coil. The blue"coil"as everyone refers to it is not a coil,it's an ignition module, right Joyce?

The 103 had points ignition. It is the 104 that has electronic.

I got the coil for the XL-123 today & figured I'd put it on today to get something accomplished - yeah right.I suppose that I have to pull the flywheel to change out the coil? The green wire that's laying on the engine block goes up under or behind the flywheel & it's soldered onto the coil,so I can't disconnect it there. 20180405_175933 by edju1958, on Flickr

Yeah, you have to pull the wheel to get at the terminal at the points to disconnect the wire. I have seen guys cut and splice the wire but that is really asking for trouble later on.

Funny thing that you mentioned cutting & splicing the wire, the thought did enter my mind, but then I thought that it'd be not the right thing to do.I didn't have any luck at the hardware store today with finding bolts to use on the flywheel puller. They didn't have the hex head cap screws & they didn't have grade 8 bolts either.I'll try another hardware store on Sat.Work is piling up just like the snow here.
