Well I finally got fed up looking at that piece of crap XP-1000 that I got a couple ofr months ago.I was talking to my other parts supplier a couple of weeks ago & was telling him of the problems I'd been having with trying to get the stuck cylinder off the piston.I was told here not to"ham fist"it,but in this case it was for the birds.I started to tap the cylinder off the piston with a small hammer & noticed that it was moving,so I had my son come help me.He took a inch & a half board about two feet long & put up to the cylinder & tapped it while I held the saw,it was off in no time.I believe the rings are shot. One looks stretched out while the other one is seized onto the piston & won't move.I think the stretched out ring was hanging up on the ports.Surprisingly it didn't break, but I wasn't worried if it did. There's a chip missing at the bottom of the cylinder.I don't really know if the cylinder is any good anyway. The piston is salvageable. Here are some pics I took. 20180327_171802 by edju1958, on Flickr 20180327_171618 by edju1958, on Flickr 20180327_171651 by edju1958, on Flickr 20180327_171633 by edju1958, on Flickr 20180327_171618 by edju1958, on 20180327_171722 by edju1958, on Flickr

Yeah, you can't use it like that. I'd also check the piston carefully...the lower ring actually looks as it should uncompressed. The upper appears to be seized in the landing for some reason. The piston may need to soak in the solvent of your choice for a day or so to loosen everything up so you can properly diagnose it.

The bottom picture shows what appears to be a second broken place on the cylinder.
The damage on the top of the piston would lead me to suspect some debris getting in the cylinder while the engine was running. I have seen that happen in car engines, one with a 1/4-20 bolt stuck in a piston. The damage on the top may have squeezed the ring groove down on the ring. Is the ring stuck all the way around or only on the side in the picture? Is there similar damage in the top of the combustion chamber?

The"damage"to the top of the piston was done by me when first trying to get the piston out of the cylinder. That"damage"is only superficial. The top ring is stuck or seized all the way around the piston. It was difficult for me to try to get pics on the inside of the cylinder, but there is no damage, but it looks as if there's rust spots in different places.I know that the cylinder is no good,I've already begun looking for a new or used one in good shape. As I understand it,the XP-1020 has the same cylinder. Not sure about the 1050 because I couldn't find any IPL's on the 1050.The XP-1000 & 1020 have a bore of 2 3/16.I just found out the 1100 is the same too. I was just told that if I'm going with a new cylinder that I might as well go with a new piston too.I think that if the piston is OK to use it & not throw my money away unnecessarily.New rings too - yes.
