Here's a quick look at my Super 2 Collection: The left is my original one which I've had over 10 years, its a 1974 Model. Its always been a good runner. The middle and right ones I got for free as they were not running. The middle one would run with fuel in the carb but not pick the fuel up. I tore the saw down, cleaned it up, replaced the fuel/oil lines with Tygon and seems to be running good now. This is my only "newer" one, its a 1986 model. Here's a shot of it before reassembly (I am waiting on some new duck bills to come in, hence the piece of hose in the hole in gas tank): The right one I am working on right now, it needs a carb rebuild and I am waiting on parts. It had no spark when I got it but it turned out to be the kill wire grounding out. Will post updates once my parts come in. This one is a 1974 model like my first one.

Rebuilt the carb, put new fuel lines and air filter on #3 and its now running good. Here's a shot of it coming back together: Also got to test it out a bit taking out a dying tree. Had to get this shot, knew I could make it in one trip (there's a poly dump cart under there somewhere)

Dumb question. Why do these saws have 2 triggers? I just brought one home and never noticed till I put it in shop.

Nice looking saws. Used to have two or three as most people get discouraged trying to get them apart and worked on. They can be a beast at times and you have to have the knack to get them reassembled right. Good little saw if you treat them right. If I recall, the 2nd trigger is a release for the main one.

The two triggers do the same thing, you can use either one too run the saw. The difference is where you hold the saw, the front one let's you use it like a top handled saw, or even one handed. The back one lets you use like a normal saw for feeling, citing firewood, etc. Obviously it's one if my favorites

that short little tube coming out of the fuel tank , has that got a 1 way valve so fuel doesnt pizz out ?
also I see the air filter , the saw Ive got apart at the moment , XL has a "frame" I pulled out ....is that supposed to go on top of the foam ? or underneath to clear the way for choke movement ?

Hi friday and welcome. The short little tube on the fuel tank that you see in picture #3 above is a one way check valve called a duckbill valve (part# 69451).It lets air in and doesn't let fuel "pizz" out. The "frame" goes under the air filter foam .
Good luck with your XL !

Dumb question. Why do these saws have 2 triggers? I just brought one home and never noticed till I put it in shop. longpork It was my understanding that the first XL-2 had two triggers and u could use with one hand to trim or use both hands with the other. Then some safety person decided that it was unsafe to use with one hand up in a tree and they removed the top trigger.chainsawlady

I was just given one of these the other day. Got the plastic carrying case too. Haven't torn into it yet. Feels like a winter project.
