Working on my latest junk find, a SUPER EZ, UT 10505B. Pulled the muffler to make a internal inspection and noticed no gasket. The IPL shows none used, so do you pros out there use a sealant at the exhaust port/muffler?

Thanks, alot of oily exhaust carbon on muffler side of the jug. I believe the way the muffler was attached was redesigned in later years. It is a western style with long screws and spacer sleeves doing the fastening. The sleeves look worn by vibration, leaving it loose. Will try a newer version muffler. Thanks again, Jeff K.

The oily exhaust indicates the fuel mix had too much oil...makes a helluva nice mess after a couple decades!

Yes, the cylinder is a mess with cooked on oil and carbon. The folks that I picked up the last 4 saws from are good timber jacks, but don't have any idea how to maintain gas engines proper. The saw has fantastic spark, cylinder walls are good, carb is now in proper order. It starts easy. Now I need to build a clutch wrench for the S type, any ideas out there?
