Hi I am new to the forum and have a couple old homelite saws 707g, 770g and a 990g. I have a 990g that is giving me fits. The saw has no spark. I replaced the points, condenser, coil still no spark.. Can anyone give me an idea of what's next.

Have you did any tests? It's possible you got a bad condenser or coil.

I loaded the condenser with an ohm meter and then switched to volts and it seemed to discharge fine. The coil is brand new so I didn't test it. What do you think?

Coil to flywheel gap set correctly? On/off switch disconnected? Take a old but good plug and set gap to .005, any spark then?

The Gap is a pre-set. Internal coil.

Thanks for the service manual. It has been a huge help. Finally got the saw to spark tonight. It was all about the points. I was about ready to give up and go to an electronic module but I wanted to keep it original. Glad I waited. Now it's on to the recoil...

Recoil is repaired. Had to "borrow" the spring from my parts 707 but it worked. Spark, recoil, tomorrow (fingers crossed) we will make some noise!

It does look good, and it will make music, not noise!

It is alive and running great! My first Homelite that I brought back from the dead. I was pretty sure when I found it behind and old shed and it wouldn't pull over that it was a goner. Thanks for all the help and the old manual. I sure did learn a lot about saws. Check out the video. youtu.be/8nxqjzPvjF0

That's great, very nice saw. Hard to imagine that it sat outside very long, it looks great. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks for sharing. Yours is in very nice shape, it's hard to find them in that condition.

My nabour phoned the bylaw office about my old 944. Does this mean he thought it was too "loud" and had called them to complain about it?

Oh yes. Was yelling over fence. But the throttle was wide open. LOL.
