Question for the pro saw builders, Homelite silastic, what modern day RTV is best for cylinder to crankcase seal? My 350 showed a very thin trace of what was a silcone sealant at that juncture. It seems to be clear colored.

A lot of guys do use the Motoseal...I've never tried it. Regular old RTV blue has worked well for me.

I am partial to Copper Spray, or Copper Gaket in tube or brush can. I use it on my HP 2 stroke bikes and all other engines I work on. It's strong enough thta I even use it in place of head gaskets on a lot of my 2t bikes. The 1e40qmb is notorious for leaking around the case half seams and using the copper gasket, I have never had a leak. Beats YamaBond adn HondaBond all day, IMHO

Are we talking about a sealant on top of a gasket or a sealant in lieu of a gasket?

For cases where it's metal to metal without a gasket, I like threebond 1194. I'm afraid it may not be available anymore though. Looks like it's been replaced. It was the same stuff as Yamabond/Hondabond. I have a few unopened tubes still sitting around... hopefully it'll keep for a few more years.

When I ended up putting the saw back together, the Motoseal was the choice. Applied very thin with a gun cleaning swab. The swabs are semi hard and leave no lint. Pleased with the results.

Can you tell us the bead size and torque specs you used? They say not to overtighten, but how tight is tight with these RTV type gasket sealants? Thanks
