Great looking saw. I like the steel hand guard and noticed it has a operator presence lever. What year was it built?

Don't you just love the "crude" version of a hand guard. What do you suppose that was all about? Nice looking saw though. Steve

It is a rare model in the US because it was the export version of the VI-123. This one is a 1972 model and it might be the first Homelite (along with the VI-123) to have an operator presence lever. The hand-guard is confusing...but it's the same one that was used on the VI-123. If you look at the IPL, the drawing is even quite crude. It's like an afterthought, but I guess it's effective enough. It's only a guess, but I'm wondering if they through something together for a safety in case the front vibration mounts failed?
