Ive scanned and sent every Homelite Service memos I have from 1979-2001, which should be around 170 or so pages. First couple of years took a while till I got a system of scanning, the later years went much faster. Anyone else got any Homelite Servive memos? We will still be missing a few between what Leon has already posted and what I sent. List what you got!

Ill have to go though and make a list of all memos we don't have, but for right now, anything 1975 and older that Leon doesn't have posted on his site, ( I believe every year has missing memos) anything 2001 and newer (I only have the first memo in 2001 H01A-001), 1997 I only had 2 memos 1 and 6. When time allows Ill make a complete list.

Hi Leon - You haven't heard from me in quite a while, but I am back in action again. I laid off E-bay buying for a while and concentrated on buying out old Homelite dealers as well as buying saws at various shows. I have over 1000 service memos from the early fifties up to the mid 90's all in one box that I just went out and locate. Unfortunately, I have them sorted according to saw model or specific problem such as carburetor, muffler, electronics, auto oiler, handlebar weaknesses, etc. There are also several other unsorted boxes of paperwork that I am sure contain more. Let me know what Service Memo Numbers you are looking for and I will try to locate them and send them to you. In addition to my current stable of almost 500 saws (over 300 EZ/SEZ's), I also have a fairly extensive collection of NPPL's and advertising literature (100's of duplicates). I am also producing Drive Belts for the 20MCS, 26LCS, Early 5-30's and the 7-29. Belts available soon for the later model 5-30, the 5-30N & 8-29. Also available: 100% accurate reproduction fuel line pairs(yes, with the stainless steel spring inside)for the 20MCS and 26LCS. Coming soon NIB spring covers for all models from the 20MCS to the EZ&EZ-6 (direct or chain drive)as well as the 72138 spark plug cover. Great to be back in touch. Michael

When I have time Ill make a list of everything 1979 and newer (new memo format) that we are missing. I believe we have most of the 1979 and up memos, (up to 2001) only missing a few here and there.

This is a great effort, thanks to all you guys for doing it.
I know it is already a huge amount of work, (wait for it,,,) but is there a way to arrange the final result so that it could be searched for model or problem or whatever? I don't know much about computer searching other than these memos are all scans, not characters, and that makes it tough or impossible.
Maybe someone who can do it will step up like you guys have, thanks again, thanks again, thanks again. :{) Dan

As of right now they are not searchable, and even if they were, the memos are grouped by years and to search, one would have to search each year. Some years have indexes, showing what saws and/or topics the memos are for a given year. I guess a master index could be made for all years so finding a topic on a particular saw would be easier to find.

Oh, I know it would be tough. I suppose they would all have to be optically scanned for characters then edited and lumped together in one file, yowzie. Well, maybe some kid that has a lot of life left could find the time, eh? Anyone out there who could memorize them all and then answer questions about them? :{)

A superficial inspection of the Service Memo's, that I have located, reveals that there are 4 distinct types: 1. Inter Office Memo. Earliest date located: 9/10/51 (forgot to write down the number), Latest date located: 8/16/54 (No. 171) 2. Service Memo. Earliest date located: 9/17/54 (3-CS, DSM 1) Latest date located: 12/16/59 (264-CS,DSM 113) 3. Branch Service Memo/Dealer Service Memo. Earliest Date located: 1/1/65 (BSM 809-CS, DSM 497) Latest date located: 1/79 (BSM 1111, DSM 798) 4. Technical Service Bulletins. Earliest date: 7/79 (179-011) Latest date: 5/86 (186-009) I leafed through them very quickly(still took over an hour)as there are probably about 1000(6 inch thick pile)and not in chronological order. I know there are a few duplicates and probably some to fill in the gaps between types. It will take some time to organize these in chronological order and start sending them out. The only way I could figure out to make these searchable would be to have a master file of hard copies in chronological order and then enter the data from each (date, DSM No., saw models covered, topic or component, etc.)into separate columns in Excel or similar program. Then you could search the database for each column and even rearrange the data in each column in Date order, Alphabetical order, Numerical order, etc. I have been working on a Homelite chainsaw Master Parts List by entering the part numbers from every IPL from the 20MCS to the 750 for almost 3 years and have only entered the data from about a dozen models so far. It turned out to be a daunting task. Try to get started soon. Michael (PastaWon)

Wow, I had not imagined manually entering all the data, I thought a computer scan could be used to organize the data. That amount of work is beyond belief. I would not ask anyone to put in that much time. Thanks for even thinking of doing it.

Hey Michael, I wondered if you were still collecting! That's cool that someone is reproducing the drive belts; those have been basically impossible to find. Greg's efforts to collaborate on the service memo's have been great; none of us expected all the info on Parkinlube's site to go away like it did. His collection was extensive and will be difficult to reproduce.

I can sort by memo number, unit number, system, date, etc. or use the search function if I want to. I can see that it will take me months to get through all of the bulletins that I have of which I am missing quite a few. I'm using voice to text which helps.

Hi All - My recent inspection of the dealer SERVICE MEMO's, that I have organized so far, has produced some very interesting new discoveries. Many of us in the chainsaw world, including myself, seem to think that we have missing SERVICE MEMO's. I think the reason for this misconception is that we assume that all SERVICE MEMO's relate to only chainsaws when, in fact that is not the case. Although, in the early years, almost all SERVICE MEMO's were regarding chainsaws, some were of a more general nature. It also appears that dealers would keep the MEMO's that pertained to chainsaws together with the chainsaw literature, IPL's and chainsaw promotions and price lists. SM's that I have are identified by two different numbers: The top number, SERVICE MEMO NO. has a number followed by one or more letter codes. The lower number, DSM (Dealer Service Memo) NO. is only a number and they never match. For instance, SERVICE MEMO NO. 3- CS/BE dated 9/17/54 has a DSM NO. 1. It deals with a new spark plug spring & cover used on the Model 17 saw. Therefore, the CS (ChainSaw.) What the BE stands for, I have not yet determined but most likely the "E" stands for Electrical. Sawnami indicates that he is missing No. 11. SERVICE MEMO NO.11 is hyphenated with the letter "O" (11-O) and is DSM NO.7 dated 10/29/54. The subject is PAINT so therefore probably not kept in the ChainSaw files by the dealer. All other SERVICE MEMO's that are hyphenated with the letter "O" seem to be general in nature such as SERVICE MEMO NO.33-O, DSM NO. 19 dated 3/28/55 the subject of which is FASTENING PARTS and SERVICE MEMO NO.145-O, DSM NO.74 having a subject of PAINT also. More further discoveries later. Some of their SERVICE MEMO's are hilarious! (Homelite actually printed a Master SERVICE MEMO Index for a few years! (I have never seen one). It is late and I must get my beauty rest. PS: I have a lot of Sawnami's missing SERVICE MEMO's and could use a few that he has to fill in some gaps in my records.

You are correct that not all memos are about saws, they can cover any product that Homelite made. Memos with a "CE" suffix stand for construction equipment. Probably only Homelite master dealers (who carried their entire product line) received all memos. Smaller dealers who maybe only sold saws probably only received memos on saws.

Yeah Steve, my attention span isn't very long at times which may make it take a while. For instance tonight I tinkered with a Mall OMG, Mall 2MG, Super Wiz 66 and inventoried about 100 more Mono chainsaw parts from a dealer inventory that I recently acquired. I'll be taking some stabs back at it this weekend hopefully.

I just E-mailed a list of about 40 Homelite Service Memo's that I have to fill in the gaps for the years 1963 through 1967. Someone just has to tell me the correct procedure for getting them to you guys. I will send them to you, Leon and Undee70SS. I have Leon's and Undee's E-mail but not yours, Sawnami. Mine is PastaMatic@aol.com

Updated memo files 1979-1984, 1986 all sent and uploaded. Saw memos should be complete for these years.
