Hey guys, I have a C-5 and C-51 that I'm replacing the sparkplug wires on. I'm sort of restoring them and have had them apart all the way down to actually removing the piston and replacing the rings. In order to get the coil off, I had to pull off the spark plug cap so the wire would fit through a hole. When I did that, I accidentally pulled the sparkplug wire out of the coil and screwed up the wire. Now, I need to install a new spark plug cap onto the new wire, then of course, into the coil. There's this rubber cap and a spring looking thing. Anybody know how to put that spring thing onto the wire and inside the cap? Thanks

Feed the wire through the cap. CAREFULLY punch a hole in the wire insulation for the leg on the terminal (spring looking thing) just back from the end of the wire. Install the leg in the hole and slide the cap over the terminal. Use some caution to keep things in place as the cap is moved. Harder to describe than to do. There used to be a needle nosed pliers for this job with a crosswise cutout through the jaw parting line which fit the OD of the wire. A pin installed in that cutout punctured the insulation when you clamped down on the wire. The needle nose helped with the positioning as things went together. I have not seen one in years however.
I would suggest that you only use metal/copper wire, not carbon fiber. The carbon is meant for radio noise suppression in cars and can be unreliable in small engines. NAPA (as well as others) sells it.

Thanks Hello All, I have a Homelite 360 and I suspect the coil if out, I was curious since parts are rare, has anybody or is it possible to modify and add a different model coil to the saw? I will probably end up buying a used one but new ones are really high due to the unique way they are made. thanks, oh2many

The famous module & core with transformer and receptacle. Ugh! The problem is knowing which part is bad? Never heard of anyone retrofitting a different coil into these saws. I have a working DM-50 ignition set (similar to your 360 but with the built in limiter) and test rig; I could test your parts for you if want to know for sure which part is out. Nothing worse then buying something you don't need; especially when they're not cheap. Cheers. Steve
